For instance, at Tunas Bangsa Junior High School, the “Eco-Friendly Class” program during the 2024/2025 academic year regularly held group discussions on personal carbon footprints and how to reduce them, significantly enhancing student understanding.
Secondly, education shapes attitudes and values. Beyond mere facts, it cultivates empathy for nature, appreciation for biodiversity, and instills a sense of responsibility as inhabitants of the Earth. This is an investment in character that cannot be measured in monetary terms. When individuals possess a deep sense of care, they become more motivated to act positively. Thirdly, education encourages real action. With correct knowledge and attitudes, environmental awareness will drive daily behavioral changes, from reducing waste and conserving resources to choosing eco-friendly products. On Wednesday, June 18, 2025, the Surakarta City Environmental Agency held a creative recycling workshop attended by hundreds of citizens, demonstrating how practical education can lead to tangible actions. Sometimes, education also involves collaboration with law enforcement to socialize the legal consequences of environmental damage, such as illegal waste disposal. By investing in education for environmental awareness, we aren’t just saving the planet; we’re also building a generation that’s smarter, more responsible, and caring about our natural heritage.
