Egg freezing, also known as oocyte cryopreservation, offers a proactive solution to preserve your fertility and expand your options for the future. This process involves retrieving, freezing, and storing your eggs at a young age, when their quality is typically higher, allowing you to potentially conceive later in life.

The Egg Freezing Process:

The process typically involves several steps over a few weeks:  

  1. Consultation and Evaluation: A fertility specialist will assess your ovarian reserve through blood tests and ultrasounds to determine your suitability for the procedure and estimate the potential number of eggs that can be retrieved.  
  2. Ovarian Stimulation: You’ll administer hormone injections daily for approximately 10-14 days to stimulate your ovaries to produce multiple mature eggs. Regular monitoring through blood tests and ultrasounds tracks the development of your follicles (fluid-filled sacs containing the eggs).  
  3. Egg Retrieval: About 36 hours after a final “trigger shot” to mature the eggs, a minor surgical procedure is performed under sedation. Using ultrasound guidance, a thin needle is inserted through the vagina to retrieve the eggs from your ovaries.
