The dream of a modern, centralized training hub for the Indonesia National Team is becoming a reality as the IKN (Ibu Kota Nusantara) sports complex opens its doors for practice. This marks a significant step forward in the development of Indonesian football, providing world-class facilities for the nation’s athletes to hone their skills.
Recent reports Indonesia National Team confirm that the football training center at IKN is now operational, with the national team already commencing their practice sessions on the newly completed FIFA-standard fields. The first phase of the training center’s development boasts three international-quality football pitches equipped with Zoysia Matrella grass, meeting FIFA specifications. Furthermore, the fields are fitted with 800-lux lighting, enabling evening training sessions.
The availability of these top-tier facilities at IKN signifies a major upgrade for the Indonesian National Team’s training infrastructure. Previously, the team often had to utilize various fields with differing quality standards. The centralized location at IKN allows for better logistical coordination, improved access to sports science and medical support, and a more cohesive team environment as players and coaching staff can be based in the on-site dormitories. The first phase includes four dormitories, two funded by FIFA and two supported by the Ministry of Public Works and Housing.
While the initial phase focuses on the training pitches and accommodation, the long-term vision for the IKN sports complex is even more ambitious. The second phase of development includes plans for a mini stadium with a capacity of 5,000 spectators, an indoor field, and a swimming pool, further enhancing the training environment for various national sports.
The move of the Indonesian National Team to begin practicing at IKN underscores the government’s commitment to developing the new capital as a center for sporting excellence. By providing access to these advanced facilities, Indonesia aims to elevate the performance of its national teams on the international stage and foster a stronger footballing culture within the nation.
